Local for the Holidays

From 2007-2009, the Davis Food Co-op and Slow Food Yolo teamed up to host a Beajolais Nouveau Release party in the Co-op's parking lot; this year, we decided to go a different direction, and think locally-- what if, instead of celebrating the world-renowned (and already much celebrated) French wine, we got a bunch of local wineries to pour-- the more local, the better!-- and celebrated the best in local, seasonal cooking, by inviting local chefs to share cooking demos of fabulous holiday recipes?

What we wound up with was the first ever Local for the Holidays event at the Davis Food Co-op Farmers Market Pavilion, a benefit for local 4H clubs-- and it was a terrific success!

Local wineries Route 3 Winery, Simas Family Vineyards, Marr Cellars, Putah Creek Winery (plus Sudwerk Brewery) were all on hand to pour.

Our enthusiastic 4H volunteers were a big help in the success of this event!

Mark Casale (Dos Coyotes) demonstrates his Pupusas Calabaza recipe.

Guests enjoy the cooking demos (and samples, too!)

Tony Gruska (Monticello) demonstrates his Winter Squash Risotto recipe.

For a late afternoon in November, the weather was surprisingly agreeable!

Atilio Carranza (Osteria Fasulo) demonstrates his Ravioli recipe.

Jaymes Luu (Fat Face) demonstrates her Chocolate Beet Cream Puff Recipe.

Many thanks to all the volunteers, wineries, restaurants, and to Slow Food Yolo, for helping us to make this benefit a success!
